Three Ways We Keep
Your Vehicle Running
From oil changes to Fisher plow installs, we handle it all under one roof. Any make, any model.
Meet the Owners

Brian and Rich took over Black Bear Automotive and have kept the same standard the shop was built on: do the work correctly, charge a fair price, and don't recommend things people don't need. That's not a tagline. It's the reason customers send their parents here.
Maine winters are hard on vehicles, road salt, frost heaves, mud season, hard starts in January. Brian and the team have seen it all. Not a chain. Not a quick-lube. A mechanic who knows what he's doing and will tell you the truth.

Rich has been turning wrenches at Black Bear Automotive for 31 years, and there isn't much that rolls through Shapleigh he hasn't fixed. He's a top tier technician, the kind other mechanics call when they're stuck.
Now co-owner alongside Brian, Rich brings the same standard he's held since day one: diagnose it right the first time, fix what's actually broken, and stand behind the work.
What We
Won't Do
Every shop says they're honest. Here's what that actually looks like at Black Bear.
- ✕Recommend repairs you don't need
- ✕Start work without your approval first
- ✕Guess at a diagnosis and charge you for it
- ✕Tell you it's fine when it isn't
- ✕Surprise you with a bill higher than the estimate
- ✕Give you the runaround when you call
York County's Verdict
“He saved me over $1,200. I was told my rear brakes were shot. Brian's team checked them, only halfway worn. I only needed the wheel bearing.”
Donna Ruggs, Google“Very kind and honest. He replaced my transmission, stuck to the original timeframe, and did additional work beyond what we agreed on. No sketchy vibes. Best experience I've ever had.”
Dana James, Google“Has to be the most trustworthy, thorough, and honest auto mechanic I've met in my 50 years, and I was a mechanic for 20 of them.”
William Quinn, Google“My muffler came off my chainsaw while clearing trees on my lot. I called Black Bear and they fixed it in 2 minutes, free of charge, so I could finish the job. That's integrity.”
Michael James, Google“Locally owned and operated. Honest, friendly, and reasonable. I highly recommend them.”
Marcel Ledbetter, Facebook“They only did the work that was required instead of trying to sell unnecessary items. Honest people. Highly recommend.”
